REVIEWED BY 'MANHATTAN USERS GUIDE': The Howard Johnson Plaza is a virtual twin with the Days Hotel a few blocks down Eighth Avenue. They're owned by the same company, run in tandem, and it is difficult to tell the difference between the rooms of the two properties. Dark hallways lead into traditional guest rooms with beige striped wallpaper. Dusty rose and green coordinate among the carpet, bedspread and curtains. Closets are reasonable in size, windows are double paned (some noise from the street is likely, though). A safe is standard in all rooms, as is cable TV and on command movies. Room service is from Beefsteak Charlie's. There is a business level, which gets you additional amenities. These include a coffee maker, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, and dataport. Nothing fancy here - the Hojo and the Days fill their niche competently. |
