Renovations of this former single-room occupancy hotel (15 of the place still operates as such) have been ongoing since 1997. It is now up to a level possibly suitable for budget travel but keep your expectations low. Very low.
Rooms come equipped with a one-line phone and voice mail, air conditioning, and an old TV without cable. Windows have thin double panes, there are cheap drop ceilings, many rooms are dark and virtually none has anything like a view unless air shafts are your thing.
The dark blue carpeting is new but is already showing heavy use. Some bathrooms have bathtubs with cigarette burns. The mattresses are the biggest problem of all - they're poor and one actually tipped downward when we sat on it.
Note that the hotel does not accept reservations for one night only on the weekends.
